HOSA Week. What was it?

ree

The week of 11/3 to 11/7 was interesting with spirit days for both theatre and HOSA

going on. HOSA is both a global organization 2 and a club here at Poudre as a subsidiary and last week was their spirit week. So incase if you forgot here is a quick recap: Monday was jersey day (wear a jersey) Tuesday was Car day (wear car related shirts) Wednesday was comfy day( wear comfy clothes) Thursday was color wars with each grade being a different color (freshmen white, sophomores red, juniors blue, and seniors black) and Friday being retro day ( wear something retro). But why do we do this? I spoke to Lila the VP of outreach, and one of the HOSA officers (one of the leaders of the club)to find out.

“So HOSA week is an international celebration that HOSA chapters all around the world participate in. So every chapter does their own thing for us we’re doing spirit days and there are international spirit days that we get to answer prompts for and then it's just like a great way to have a little bit of fun and highlight HOSA and what it is and its importance” said Lila. while the international days were “Milestone Monday” which was more or less a look back to HOSA alums and the journey we are all on now,1 Tuesday was “Together Tuesday” which was simply celebrating connection and being together,1 Wednesday was “why Wednesday" which was looking at the reasons behind joining HOSA For each Member,1 Thursday was “Talent Thursday” celebrating the talents of HOSA members 1 then Friday was “Future Friday” looking towards the future of hosa.1 HSOA describes HOSA week as “a unifying opportunity to allow our students to come together and celebrate what makes HOSA so great. Especially this year, HOSA Week is our chance to honor our legacy of what the past 50 years has done for us,” said Nicholas Hanle, South Carolina HOSA Board Chair-Elect and local advisor.

But of course all of this begs the question: what is HOSA? According to the official HOSA website “HOSA is a global student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and several federal and state agencies.” But according to two HOSA members Jade and Izabell with izabell saying “its an organization where you can make new friends and learn, obviously it's pretty medically centered but it's just fun” and jade commenting “Hosa is a very great opportunity to make friends talk to others that are interested in the same field as me, make connections in the medical world and give me better opportunities to explore my interests things like that”

HOSA as an organization was started 49 years ago in 1976 “has grown steadily reaching over 350,000 members through 56 chartered HOSA Associations”2 and if interested you can still join poudres HOSA according to izabell and jade if you're interested in it.
