Topps Chrome, thoughts and about

One of the most anticipated NFL trading card products is here, Topps Chrome football 2025. While pre orders were open at 10 AM on Friday, April 3rd. These boxes sold out in under 10 minutes, with prices on release day being (minus shipping) $400 for a Hobby Box, $650 for a Jumbo Hobby Box, $40 for a Blaster Box, and $20 for a Hanger Box. After the release, prices exploded, with a Hobby Box costing around $1,000, Jumbo Hobby Boxes being all over the place, with some prices at $2,000 and some prices being around $1,000. The Value Box stayed relatively the same at $65, and the Hanger Boxes doubled in price, being around $40.

So why are people going crazy over this one product? This is the first time since 2016 that Topps has had a license, and following their takeover of the license from Panini, another huge sports cards company, Topps introduced PREMIER patches. These patches were worn during the players first game, and there are only one of these on the entire players uniform. The Jaxon Dart 1/1 PREMIER patch is expected to sell for more than 100,000 dollars!

What Topps has done better than Panini:

Usually, regular collectors just don’t have the money to buy a Hobby Box or one of the more expensive options. With the new announcement that Topps is including the 1/1 patches in value boxes and in the less expensive boxes, regular collectors actually have a chance at pulling dream cards. In addition, one of the main complaints with Panini is that their memorabilia or patch cards were not game worn. These cards contained patches from a players jersey that the player maybe touched or didn’t even look at. With Topps, Topps announced that their patch cards would be worn from a game! This means that one of your favorite NFL games could have a jersey patch card from the game. Also, Topps introduced what is known as a MVP buyback system. This system allows people to trade in a regular card of Mathew Stafford (the MVP in question) for $20 of store credit. The trade-ins range from $20 for a base (regular) card of Mathew Stafford, to $100+ for numbered and various “special” cards of Mathew Stafford.

What Panini has done better than Topps:

One of the new main complaints about Topps is that their cards look too “old school”. People like the design and color of the Panini cards, which is a big part with collecting cards. One of the main parts of collecting cards for regular collectors is how the cards look. Also, with the sheer amount of products Panini puts out every year, people can collect their favorite rookies and players without paying $40-65 to maybe get a good rookie. Panini had packs that ranged from $5-20 which allowed a lot more ease of access for rookie and general cards. One of the side effects of this is that the highly produced Panini cards are worth a lot less than lower produced Topps cards. For example, a rookie of Jaxson Dart is going for 30-50 dollars depending on the card.
