This class will cover the same thing as you would in a general chemistry class in college, allowing you to get a good college class done in high school. This class will cover nine units spanning over the entire year, every other day. This class will teach you how to do different chemical reactions and many different ways to look at the world and how everything is made up. At the end of that school year, you will have the option to take an AP test that you will have previously signed up for, and if you score well enough on it, this will count as gen chem in college. This class's whole goal is to prepare you for the AP test at the end of the year, with the teacher teaching you how to do these things while also teaching you what those things will be like on the AP test. This class is taught by the amazing chemistry teacher, Mr. McBride teaches general chemistry and a few other science-related classes while also running science bowl and knowledge bowl. I have had the pleasure of being his student for this class and the high school general chemistry, while also being a teacher's aide for him. During the period of this class, you will use many online resources like AP Classroom, which is an online platform that is basically Google Classroom, but just for AP.
The AP test has two sections, the first section being 60 multiple-choice questions, which you will have 90 minutes to complete, and the second section will have 7 free-response questions and have a time limit of 105 minutes to complete. I would recommend taking this class in your senior year, but if you want to start earlier and get farther ahead, you should talk to your counselor about taking HL chemistry, which is a 2-year program that allows you to get a further and deeper understanding of chemistry. This AP test is Hybrid, meaning that the multiple choice is on your computer while your free response is on paper. This is a hard class and a hard test, with only 30.3% of the people who take it scoring a 3 or higher on the AP test. Although this class is hard, it is still easier and cheaper to take this in high school than it is to take it in college.
